Hi folks!
I believe it's time we bust out the camping gear and head up to the mountains for a weekend party. I'm trying to put together a gathering over the Memorial day weekend in the Black Rock Forest. We can have a BIG fire, we can spin fire, we can swim in the lake, fish, hike... whatever one might do in the forest.
I know a few of you are familiar with the BRF, but let me 'splain it for the rest of ya. A burner friend of ours - Patrick - happens to own about 20 or 30 acres of forest land in Pollock Pines (that's about half-way between Sacramento and S Lake Tahoe on hwy 50). Patrick's land is just up the hill from the Sly Park recreation area on Jenkinson Lake. He has been working the land and making big flat clearings among the trees for the last couple summers so that us fellow burners might have a mountain refuge to have burner-type gatherings. Well, it's in great shape and ready for us to go play! There's room for at least 100 of us to set up camp and art and music and whatever other ideas we come up with. There's plenty of fire-wood, an outhouse, a solar powered fresh water well, and even a chicken coup which - with a little luck - will supply a few of us with fresh eggs for breakfast. I'm hoping to get power up there for lights and maybe a DJ set up... at the very least I'll set up the playa stereo from the Iron Rose Juke Joint on the playa last year.
Our intention is for this to be a family friendly gathering. So bring the kids! We are actually using this opportunity to celebrate our Lizzi's 13th Birthday (YAY!).
So whatta y'all think? Can you make it? good idea? Let me know and we'll build the plans together.
More info to come... Or as soon as somebody asks.

Re: Black Rock Forest PARTY TIME!!!
Sun, May 14, 2006 - 10:17 PMHi Peoples!
Here's the latest on the Memorial weekend campin trip - please forgive any redunancies, I'm posting this same message to several places:
It looks like we have 20 - 30 folks coming so far. I'm betting more decide to join us, but who knows. I have a friend who is bringing a generator (yay! Thanks Steve!) and I'll have plenty of room to bring the stereo gear I have - the playa-fied freecycle stereo. Anyone else willing to bring up some sound? With a good speaker system we might be able to attract some turn-tables and a DJ!
I've heard from several people that they're bringing their kids. We'll have our girls an probably several of their friends coming along - that means a bunch of teen-agers running around. Someone asked about nudity with kids around. As far as I'm concerned, nakedness is fine assuming nothing gets overtly sexual - but that only goes as far as our kids and their older friends. My concern would be freaking out the 13 year old friends that get brought along, so lets just see how the vibe is and go from there. Same goes for other "adult" activities.
Someone also asked about cost... Unless Patrick decides to charge us all of a sudden, the only cost is gettin yourself up there and buying whatever supplies you need.
We intend to be there saturday morning May 27 - or maybe a little afternoon depending on how long it takes to round everybody up that morning. I'm hoping to bring my weber bbq. Anyone wanna grill?!
I haven't heard from Patrick yet, not since he posted a couple weeks ago. Here's what he said about the party:
"If we are expecting alot of folks we may need a few porta potties and please encourage ride sharing as regards to parking. We could make everyone responsible for all there trash, if its yours take it home. The Airstream needs some work, I would like to convert it into a red light lounge / guest house."
I'm not sure if 30 people plus would overwhelm the little outhouse he built up there, but I'll check into renting a porta-potty just in case. Also, I do encourage carpooling. (The Muse and Twich say they have room for a few folks to ride up in their RV) If our group stays this size tho, I don't see any problems... most of us will be tent camping so I think we can park the cars well out of the way even if there's 20 or more of them.
Also, for those of you who are new to this... the lake I mentioned is down the hill from our spot - maybe a mile hike at best, or a quick ride in the truck. The well was in good shape last time I was there, but I'd suggest you all bring a jug of water just in case. There is a little general store and saloon a couple miles from us around the lake, so don't stress over rembering everything or bringing all kinds of food supplies. We can run down to buy some eggs for breakfast or even go get a burger for dinner and hang out with the locals.
I haven't really managed to get a shade structure together. All I have is a couple tarps and 3 tent poles. Can anybody contribute to this cause? I guess we could just chill in the trees, but, well y'know...
I haven't figure out how to send attachments in tribe yet, so I found another way... To get a map and directions, go to this web site - www.4shared.com/dir/395362...haring.html - and you can download the .doc file that has both directions and a map. If you don't have MS Word 2000, you may be better off downloading the seperate jpg map image and the text file for directions. Once you get to the above url, I believe you just scroll down to find the "download" button.
Let me know if I missed anything!
See y'all in a couple weeks!
